STAC BOYS SOCCER: OWEGO KNOCKS OFF 7TH-RANKED ONEONTA (2022-09-21)
Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO — Noah Fowler scored with 15 seconds remaining to lift Owego to a 2-1 victory over 7th-ranked Oneonta in STAC boys soccer action here Wednesday night.
It was the Indians’ second win over a state-ranked team in three days (they beat No. 17 Lansing, 4-0, Monday).
“Incredible night, the memories that we’ll look back on fondly and the games we live for,” Owego coach Alessio De Michele said. “High quality game between two good teams with very very different styles.”
Ryan Pryor recorded the assist on Fowler’s tally. Pryor gave Owego a 1-0 lead in the first half with Fowler picking up the assist.
“Today we came out on top and I’m so proud of the boys because it’s a complete team effort every game,” De Michele said. “Tonight, Noah and Ryan were the heroes. Other nights it’s someone else so it’s been an incredible group effort.”
The victory boosted Owego’s record to 8-0 and provides a small measure of satisfaction for a team which has been snubbed in the first two New York State Sportswriters Association polls of the season.
“We just need to keep the faith in the way we play even when it’s difficult, but the boys showed their metal again,” De Mchele said.
Owego hosts Chenango Valley next Wednesday.
