ONEONTA — A corner kick in the final five minutes proved to be the difference in Owego’s 2-1 STAC girls soccer loss to Oneonta here Tuesday night.
Julia Joyner scored her second goal of the game, a corner with 4:48 remaining to make the difference in the final score.
Joyner scored in the first minute of the first half to give the Yellowjackets an early advantage.
Veronika Madej and Maggie Nealis contributed assists on Joyner’s goals.
The next two goals came off the feet of all-state players.
The Indians’ Erin McDonald knotted the score at 24:39 of the first half with Taylor Dalton picking up an assist.
Oneonta would go back on top, 2-1, on a Madej shot at 23:37 of the second half.
Owego would rally to tie the game at two with 7:01 to go. Cassie Doane got the goal and Angie Muench added the assist.
The Indians, who debuted at No. 21 in this week’s Class B state poll, outshot Oneonta, 21-10 and each team had two corners.
Lillie Rowe made nine saves for the Jackets and Olivia Dodge had four for Owego.
Oneonta improved to 4-3 with two losses coming against Class AA powers and the other to 8th-ranked Chenango Valley.
Owego (5-2) hosts Horseheads Monday.
