IAC CROSS COUNTRY: ILLSLEY, SWITZER LEAD NEWARK VALLEY AT TIOGA MEET (2022-09-21)

TIOGA CENTER — Newark Valley’s Harley Switzer and Anvil Illsley recorded top-5 finishes to lead the Cardinals’ girls and boys efforts at an IAC multi-team meet hosted by Tioga here Tuesday.
BOYS
Illsley placed fifth in the 31-runner field, logging a time of 20:19. He trailed only SVEC’s Johnathan Garrison, the winner in 18:29, the Eagles’ Nathan Gillette (19:47) and Brian Belanger (19:55), and the Tigers’ Thomas Hurd (20:03).
NV’s Logan Woodin placed 13th in 22:42, James Hackett who was 21st with a 24:05, Bryce Dunn, 28th in 29:06 and
Also competing for the Cardinals was Austin DeBolt (31st, 48:46).
GIRLS
SVEC ran in pairs to win the battle with Newark Valley, scoring 33 points to the Cardinals’ 39. Edison was third with 56 while Tioga and Waverly had incomplete teams.
Harley Switzer led NV, placing fourth in 23:47, crossing the finish behind winner Harper Minaker of Waverly, who clocked a 22:03, and the Eagles’ Isabella Matisco with a time of 22:45, and Kristin Baker who ran a 23:12.
The Cardinals had a nice 7-8-9 finish with Emma Smith, Emma Neno and Brook Illsley posting times of 24:54, 25:09 and 25:21, respectively. Emily LaPorte capped the team scoring, taking 18th in 28:17.
Also competing for NV were Elizabeth Waterman (22nd, 30:26), Casidy Downey (25th, 32:09) and Madison Bishop (26th, 33:04)
Newark Valley competes in the Owego Invitational Saturday.
