Tioga County Sports Report
SOUTHPORT — The Newark Valley and Elmira Notre Dame girls soccer teams battled one another evenly on the scoreboard Monday night, but neither could compete with Mother Nature.
The game was called early in the second half due to weather with the two squads caught in a scoreless deadlock.
“The game ended early with 35-plus minutes left in the second half due to the second weather stoppage,” NV coach Chuck Schneider said. “The first stoppage happened with 10 minutes left in the first half that lasted for about 40 minutes.
“Momentum had shifted in our favor before the first stoppage that continued through to the second stoppage.”
The Cardinals held a 5-1 advantage in shots, but ND held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Kylee Carrier had one save for NV and the Crusaders’ goalkeeper had two.
NV (6-0-1) has another tough challenge Thursday night when it visits Waverly (6-0).
