IAC GIRLS SOCCER: NEWARK VALLEY IMPROVES TO 6-0 WITH SHUTOUT (2022-09-18)

NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley improved to 6-0 on the season with a 5-0 shutout of Odessa-Montour in IAC girls soccer action here Saturday.
Emma Miller scored two goals while Kathryn Simmons contributed a goal and an assist to the victory.
The Cardinals’ first goal came 15 minutes into the first half when Ella Klingle went deep into the box and then passed back to Isabella Shiel, who finished the play scoring near post.
NV made it 2-0 near the 8-minute mark when Miller took a pass from Simmons and put the shot away from 20 yards out.
She would repeat the feat three minutes later, taking a pass from Clara McCloskey and making it 3-0 at the break.
In the second half, Adrianna Finta gathered in a loose ball near midfield, dribbled past a defender and launched a 30-yard shot that found its way into the lower right corner of the goal.
The final goal would come when Sierrah Thompson linked up with Simmons on a pass with about 12 minutes remaining in the game.
“Overall, the team did extremely well keeping O-M locked in their own end of the field,” NV coach Chuck Schneider said. “We connected well with passing and moving the ball around.”
The Cardinals took 23 shots and had 10 corner kicks while holding the Grizzlies without a shot or a corner.
Keyonna Garrison made 13 saves and Brooklynn Thompson had three for O-M.
