STAC VOLLEYBALL: OWEGO PROGRAM SEES SEVERAL COACHING CHANGES (2022-08-11)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO — There are several changes in the Owego volleyball program this season with new head coaches at the varsity, JV and modified levels.

Brittney Race, who led the Indians to Class B state championships in 2013, 2015 and 2017, along with several other state tournament appearances, has stepped down as the mentor of the varsity squad.

Taking her place is one of her former players, Abbey Manning, who graduated in 2015. She played volleyball and softball, and was on the varsity teams all four years.

She moved on to SUNY Brockport, graduating in December 2019. She spent two years as a defensive specialist and setter for the Golden Eagles.

She won two state titles with Owego and played in the NCAA Division III nationals with Brockport in 2019.

Manning spent the past two years at Harpursville as the JV coach. She currently works there as a special education / reading recovery teacher.

Her coaching experience also includes Whirlwind Volleyball Club, where she has spent the past four years coaching at many levels, but mostly with the 12-14 year olds.

Also new to the Indians’ staff are JV coach Raven Worthing and modified coaches Kristina Wicklund and James DiMaria.

The varsity and JV open the season Sept. 6 at home against Norwich, and the modified team begins Sept. 21 at Chenango Forks.
