JOHNSON CITY — The Southern Tier fell to Mid-Hudson, 56-49, in the semifinals of the 10th Annual BCANY Summer Hoops Festival here Sunday.

On Saturday, ST rallied to down Buffalo, 71-67, but dropped its second game of the day to Mid-Hudson, 75-67.

SATURDAY
SOUTHERN TIER 71, BUFFALO 67
The Tier rallied from a 17-point deficit in the final eight minutes.

Buffalo was shooting well from long range and a 3-pointer put the westerners up, 53-36, with 7:19 on the clock.

Southern Tier was able to turn things around with intense defensive pressure, but trailed, 67-63 with 44.7 ticks on the timer.

With 39 seconds left, Elmira’s Jalea Abrams sank a three-ball from the corner to close the gap to a point.

On Buffalo’s next possession, Newark Valley’s Hayley Beebe knocked the ball loose, then dove to the floor and swatted it to Abrams, who drew a foul. She sank both attempts, giving ST a 68-67 lead with 29.6 seconds to go.

Oxford’s Madalyn Barrows hit a pair of foul shots with 14.7 seconds remaining and Union Springs’ Payton Gilbert added another with 3.7 seconds left.

Gilbert finished the game with 17 points, not far behind the game-high 20 put up by NV’s Cha Gardner.Abrams added 13.

Also contributing were Joleen Lusk with seven, Owego’s Madison McEvoy with five, Beebe with four, and Barrows and Ava Cirigliano with two each.

Buffalo’s Megan Trapper, Brianna Barr and Rachel Kamrowski scored 13, 12 and 10 points, respectively.

MID-HUDSON 75, SOUTHERN TIER 67
Mid-Hudson won the battle of the long ball, sinking 10 treys to Southern Tier’s nine.

The game was tied at 39 at the break.

Abrams paced the Tier with 19 points and Barrows chipped in with a dozen more.

Gardner and Lusk had nine apiece, and Edison’s Payton Littlefield added eight. Gilbert scored five, McEvoy and Gilbertsville-Mount Upton’s Hannah Bonczkowski tacked on three apiece, and Beebe had two.

Mid-Hudson’s Paige Girardi led all scorers with 20 points. Zoe Mesash had 16 and Allison Bono added 14.

SUNDAY
MID-HUDSON 56, SOUTHERN TIER 49
The teams that combined for 142 points and 19 threes less than 24 hours earlier scored 105 points and sank nine treys in their second meeting.

This time, Mid-Hudson ran out to a 33-19 halftime lead.

Gardner and Barrows scored 10 points apiece for the Tier.

Lusk added eight while Abrams, Bonczkowski and Johnson City’s Marissa Smith had seven apiece.

Mid-Hudson’s Molly Buck led all scorers with 19 points and Girardi had 12 more.
