(CORRECTED) YOUTH BASKETBALL: CHANGES AFFECT SOUTHERN TIER’S BCANY SCHEDULE (2022-08-03)

JOHNSON CITY — The schedule for the Southern Tier boys and girls teams for the 10th annual BCANY Summer Hoops Festival has changed.

The boys and girls squads will no longer open the tournament Friday with back-to-back games.

The boys opener against Hudson Valley has been moved to 7 p.m. Friday at Johnson City Elementary School. The team will follow that up with an 8:30 p.m. contest against Buffalo at Johnson City High School.

The girls will now open play Friday at 4 p.m. against Central at the middle school then face North Country at the high school at 7 p.m..

The teams will play at the same time Saturday with the boys taking on Capital at the high school and the girls playing Buffalo at the middle school. Both games will begin at 2 p.m.

The boys team begins Saturday against Nassau at 11 a.m. at the elementary school while the girls game against Nassau has been canceled.

The girls will close out pool play at 5 p.m. Saturday against Mid-Hudson at the high school.

Owego twins Joe and John Bangel are on the Southern Tier boys squad. The brothers are entering their senior year.

The Indians’ Chris Evans and Tom Bronk are the head coach and assistant coach, respectively.

The Southern Tier girls roster includes incoming senior Hayley Beebe and junior Cha Gardner from Class C state runner-up Newark Valley, and Owego sophomore Madison McEvoy. Indians head coach Luke McEvoy will help coach the team.

Saturday vs. Nassau, 11 a.m., JCES
