LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL: OWEGO ROBINSON WINS TWO CLOSE ONES TO CLAIM OWEGO 10U ‘C’ TOURNAMENT TITLE (2022-07-25)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO — Owego Robinson needed to win twice to earn the “C” Division title at the Owego Little League 10U Tournament at Hyde Park Sunday. The team pulled it off by the narrowest of margins, downing Union-Endicott, 11-10 and 12-11.

GAME 1: OWEGO 11, U-E 10
Owego looked like it would cruise to an easy victory in the first contest, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first inning.

However, U-E would not go away without a fight, pulling within a run three times over the final three innings.

The Indians’ big inning included a leadoff triple by Austin Gregory, followed by Theodore Robinson’s RBI double, and another Gregory triple, which plated two runs, later in the inning.

Jaxson Weaver added a run-scoring double. Gavin Sipe, Chandler Serfass and Dalton Marsh contributed RBI singles.

Kaden Kacmar was hit by a pitch while Remmington Morgan and Maxx Thole received walks.

Sipe singled and scored on a Morgan base hit in the fourth, and Marsh walked and reached home on a Robinson ground out in the fifth.

Gregory went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI; Morgan was 2-for-2 with a run and RBI; and Sipe was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Robinson chipped in with a hit, run and two RBI; Marsh had a hit, two runs and one RBI; Weaver added a hit and an RBI; Serfass had a hit and a run; and Kacmar and Thole each scored once.

Kacmar, Morgan and Gregory combined to throw a three-hitter. They offset 13 walks with 11 strikeouts, and allowed six earned runs.

GAME 2: OWEGO 12, U-E 11
Owego let the lead get away twice, along with a fifth-inning tie, but came back to score four runs in the final two innings.

A Thole walk, and singles by Marsh and Gregory helped Owego close the gap to 11-10 in the fifth.

In the sixth, Morgan’s triple scored Weaver, who singled, with the tying run. Then, with two outs in the book, Morgan stole home to clinch the championship.

Triples by Weaver and Serfass, and a double from Robinson, along with a Gregory single, and Kacmar and Morgan walks gave Owego a 5-2 first-inning lead.

Weaver and Gregory singled in the third, Sipe, Thole and Marsh collected walks, and Morgan added an RBI ground out to give the Indians an 8-6 advantage in the third.

Gregory finished the game 4-for-4 with a run and three RBI; and Weaver went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.

Marsh was 2-for-2 with two runs; Morgan added a hit, two runs and two RBI; Robinson had a hit, run and RBI; Serfass had a hit and two RBI; Thole added a pair of runs; Kacmar scored a run; and Sipe tacked on a hit.

Owego finished the tournament at 7-1, giving the host league’s four teams a 26-7 combined record with two titles and two runner-up showings.
