LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL: OWEGO RUSSELL SPLITS AT OWEGO 12U ‘C’ TOURNAMENT, FINISHES SECOND (2022-07-25)

OWEGO — Owego Russell rallied from a 6-run deficit to defeat Trumansburg, 23-18, in the first of two “C” Division championship round games in the Owego Little League 12U Tournament at Hyde Park Sunday, but wasn’t able to pull off a comeback in the second contest, falling, 13-9.

GAME 1: OWEGO 23, T-BURG 18
Trailing 14-8 after two innings, Owego erupted for 14 runs over the next two innings to force a second game.

Landon Boccasini, Sullivan Morgan and Lincoln Miller, who scored four runs apiece in the game, got the rally going, each scoring for the third time.

Jackson Barrows, Trace Hall, Logan Rose and Finnegan Morgan tacked on runs to help make it a game. Rose also scored four times.

Owego scored another seven runs in the fourth to take the lead, 21-16. Boccasini, Morgan, Miller, Evan Canfield, Barrows, Hall and Rose all scored.

Boccasini reached base safely in all five plate appearances, collecting two singles and two walks, and he was also hit by a pitch.

Sullivan Morgan went 1-for-2 with a triple and two walks, and he also took one for the team. Rose went 2-for-2 with a double and two walks; Anthony Neumuth was 2-for-4 with a double; Miller was 1-for-2 with two walks; and Finnegan Morgan drew a pair of walks.

GAME 2: T-BURG 13, OWEGO 9
The Raiders squandered a 6-0 lead before rallying to claim the title.

Owego started to put together a comeback effort with a seven-run third.

Canfield and Scott Reigle both singled and scored. Boccasini, Sullivan Morgan, Barrows, Lucas Mott and Neumuth all tallied after being issued walks.

Canfield and Barrows singled and scored in the fifth.

Rose tripled to lead off the bottom of the sixth, but was thrown out on a controversial play at the plate. The Morgans were stranded at third and first to end the game after each drew a base on balls.

Canfield reached base three times with two singles and a walk; as did Barrows with a single and a pair of walks; and Sullivan Morgan with two walks and after being hit by a pitch.

Mott contributed two walks; and Miller and Reigle tacked on one hit each.

T-burg finished the tournament at 5-2 and Owego went 6-2. The two teams split four meetings.
