LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL: OWEGO DIEDRICH ADVANCES TO CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND AT OWEGO 12U TOURNAMENT (2022-07-24)

OWEGO — Owego Diedrich defeated Binghamton, 8-5, Friday and Johnson City, 10-4, Saturday to advance to the “B” Division championship round of the Owego Little League 12U Tournament at Hyde Park.

OWEGO 8, BINGHAMTON 5
The Indians scored all their runs in the first three innings and led 5-0 after two frames and 8-3 after the third.

Beckett Tirinato belted a triple in the bottom of the second. Caden Morrow smacked a double in the first and Eric Schrader added one in the fourth. Brenden Whigham and Nolan Card ripped back-to-back twin-sackers in the third, driving in one run apiece.

Card finished the game 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI; Morrow was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs; and Dylan Gregory and Whigham both went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.

Schrader added a hit, Ben Harvey and Jeremiah Wheeler each had a hit and RBI; Tirinato and Mason Henderson each contributed a hit and a run; Camden Thole tacked on a run and an RBI.

Morrow and Wheeler split the pitching duties. Each allowed four hits while striking out three.

OWEGO 10, JOHNSON CITY 4
LIke the previous day, Owego scored big early, plating nine of its runs in the first two innings.

First-inning extra-base hits helped the Indians a 6-0 advantage.

Whigham’s double gave Owego a 2-0 lead and a Tirinato double made it 3-0. Harvey followed with a run-scoring triple and next up was Thole with an RBI double. The final run of the inning came on a bases-loaded walk to Wheeler.

Whigham also chipped in with an RBI triple in the second and Card followed him with a two-run dinger to right, giving Owego a 9-0 cushion.

JC scored all its runs in the third, then Owego added one more in the fourth after Card tripled and scored on a passed ball.

Card went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI; and Whigham was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI to lead the Indians at the plate.

Tirinato, Harvey and Ryan Diedrich helped out with a hit, run and RBI apiece. Gregory had a hit and a run; Schrader added a hit and two runs; Thole added a hit and Wheeler tacked on an RBI.

Schrader and Henderson spent time on the mound with Schrader striking out five and spreading out five hits. Henderson tossed 3 ⅓ innings of one-hit relief, fanning four batters.
