OWEGO — Owego Cordero scored early and often, then held off a late charge from Union-Endicott Vassil to post a 19-16 victory in Owego Little League 10U Tournament “A” Division action at Hyde Park here Thursday.

With the win, Owego advances to the championship round Saturday.

Leading, 3-0, Owego erupted for eight runs in the second inning, then extended its advantage to 14-1 in the top of the third. Truett Hall’s second double of the game and Max Buchsbaum’s triple highlighted the uprising.

U-E made a game of it with five runs in the third and six more in the fourth, closing the gap to 16-12.

Owego picked up two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth before holding off U-E.

The black and orange put four singles, a double and a walk together to close the gap to 19-16, then came the play of the game.

With two away, U-E’s Ryan Sullivan advanced to third on a base hit between shortstop and third base, then attempted to score. Owego left fielder Harrison Miller scooped up the ball and fired a rope to catcher Max Schrader, who was waiting with ball in glove as Sullivan slid into home. Sullivan never reached the plate and Owego celebrated the triumphant end to the game.

Rocco Canfield went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and four RBI; Colby Cordero was 4-for-5 with a double and three runs; and Hall was 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI.

Nick Tavelli went 2-for-2 with two runs and three walks; Schrader was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI; Devon Brace had a hit and two runs; and Adam Harvey contributed two hits, a run and two RBI.

Buchsbaum recorded a hit, two runs and two RBI; Ethan Nikulich chipped in with a hit, run and RBI; and Miller added a run and an RBI.

Brace and Tavelli combined to strike out 11 batters with Brace fanning eight over 3 ⅓ innings.

Owego will face the winner of U-E and Vestal Orr for the title.
