SECTION IV SOFTBALL: S-VE STUNS LANSING, 14-3 (2022-05-24)

Tioga County Sports Report
LANSING — Rhiana Lawrence struck out a dozen batters, the defense played errorless ball and the offense cranked out 16 hits as fifth-seeded S-VE stunned No. 4 Lansing, 14-3, in the Section IV Class C quarterfinals here Tuesday.

The senior spinner retired the final nine batters of the game to wipe out any chance of a Bobcat comeback while riding the strength of an 8-run uprising.

Trailing 2-1, the Panthers opened the fifth inning with back-to-back singles by Kaili Root and Adrienna Farmer.

Following an out, Sydney Presher delivered an RBI single, Lawrence smacked a two-run double and Raegan Sudnikovich belted a two-run home run.

With two away, Faith Brenchley singled and Hannah Martinez tacked on an RBI double, then Root and farmer tacked on their second base hits of the inning, Martinez driving in a run and scoring the final run of the uprising.

Lansing would manage to get one run back in the bottom of the inning, but the Panthers countered with another run in the sixth when Sudnikovich singled and scored on Katelyn Klym's base hit.

S-VE plated four insurance runs in the seventh. Martinez and Root reached on errors, Farmer singled, Sophia Dutra hit a two-run double, and Lawrence added an RBI double.

Lawrence scored the game's initial run, leading off with a single and scoring on Klym's sacrifice fly.

The Bobcats responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on an Iris Boerman triple, a fielder's choice and a base hit.

Farmer went 3-for-4 with two runs, and Lawrence was 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI. Root was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI; Sudnikovich was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI; and Presher was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Martinez contributed a hit, two runs and an RBI; Dutra had a hit, run and two RBI; Klym added a hit and two RBI; and Brenchley tacked on a hit and a run.

Lansing (14-4) and ranked 28th in the state managed just four hits and a walk off Lawrence.

S-VE (17-4) visits top-seeded and second-ranked Greene (19-0) Thursday.
