CANDOR — Candor won its third game in two days, defeating Newark Valley, 18-5, in IAC softball action here Friday.

The Indians ended the game with a 6-4-3 triple play as shortstop Jill Holmes snagged a line drive, then threw to first baseman Shelby Swartz, who then relayed the ball to second baseman Ryleigh Bowman.

Candor scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 6-1 lead, but the Cardinals cut it to 6-4 in the top of the third.

The Indians plated six runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth.

Addie Aman, Holmes and Swartz accounted for four runs apiece. Aman went 2-for-2 with four runs, Holmes was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, and Swartz was 2-for-5 with four RBI. Isabel Makie was 1-for-3 with two runs.

Candor had 11 hits, and also took advantage of 17 walks and two errors.

Mackenzie Malone and Joslyn Wright both went 2-for-3 with one run for NV.

Newark Valley visits Elmira Notre Dame Saturday and Candor heads to Watkins Glen Monday.
