NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Watkins Glen, 8-3, in IAC softball action here Thursday.

The Senecas held a 3-2 edge heading into the inning, but came out trailing.

Hayley Beebe ignited the comeback with a single and Mackenzie Malone followed with an RBI double. After a Kayden Rockwell single, Rachael Walker, Joslyn Wright and Kalyna Graham delivered RBI singles.

All but Graham scored in the rally, which was also aided by a pair of errors in the outfield.

Beebe accounted for three runs on the day, also scoring in the first and sixth innings. Laura Ludwig added a run in the second to tie the game at two.

Rockwell went 2-for-2 with a run and RBI. Beebe was 2-for-3, Malone was 2-for-3 with a double, run and RBI, and Joslyn Wright went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.

Malone picked up the win in the circle with three innings of no-hit relief, retiring all nine batters she faced. Wright started and struck out six through four innings, giving up all three runs, but just one earned run.

Newark Valley visits Candor Friday.
