IAC SOFTBALL: WAVERLY PUTS NEWARK VALLEY IN EARLY HOLE IN SHUTOUT (2022-04-21)

WAVERLY — Waverly scored three runs in each of the first three innings en route to a 13-0 IAC South Large SChool softball victory over Newark Valley here Wednesday.

The Wolverines took advantage of 10 hits and four errors to improve to 3-1. Meanwhile, Micheala Lauper checked the Cardinals on a pair of hits, striking out eighth without issuing a walk. She supported her effort at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.

Brinn Cooney and Aubrey Ennis had multiple hit games for the home team as well. Cooney went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI, and Ennis was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Cooney and Peyton Shaw had triples, and Lea VanAllen added a double.

Waverly added two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Rachael Walker belted a double and Mackenzie Malone added a single to account for NV’s hits.

Joslyn Wright was in the circle for the Cardinals. She allowed six earned runs, scattering 10 hits and five walks while striking out five.

NV (2-2) hosts Edison today at 4:30 p.m.
