STAC SOFTBALL: OWEGO RALLIES PAST JC IN SEASON OPENER (2022-04-04)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO — Owego rallied from a two-run deficit to defeat Johnson City, 7-3, in STAC softball action here Monday.

With the Indians down, 3-1, Jordan Greeno doubled to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning and scored on an error on Alex Aubel’s sacrifice attempt to start the comeback.

Aubel would move to third on the miscue and score on Lauren Gilbert’s base hit, but the rally stopped when JC turned a double play.

Gilbert walked the lead-off batter in the sixth before retiring the side.

Chelsea Rollison reached on an error to start the bottom of the inning, then Brooklyn Gaurnier and Maddie Bennett walked. Rollison scored on Greeno’s sac fly, then Gaurnier and Bennett scored on a passed ball to make it 6-3.

Aubel walked, Gilbert singled and Aubel scored on a passed ball to make it 7-3.

Gilbert surrendered a base on balls with one out in the seventh before retiring the final two batters.

Owego scored the game’s first run after Greeno walked, advanced to third on an Aubel sacrifice bunt, and scored on a passed ball.

JC tied the score in the fourth on an error followed by a double. The Wildcats followed that twin-bagger with two more doubles to take a 3-1 lead.

Gilbert gave up three unearned runs on five hits and seven walks while striking out 12. She helped her effort at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a run and RBI.

Greeno went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, Gaurnier was 1-for-2 with a run, Aubel scored twice, Layla Etienne went 1-for-1, Bennett and Rollison scored a run apiece, and Ava Brown added a hit.
