CANDOR / SPENCER — The SVEC boys golf team had an impressive season in its post-pandemic return to the links last spring.

With one graduation loss, the Eagles should be a top contender in the IAC and Section IV Class C again this season.

SVEC went undefeated in dual matches (8-0), then went on to place third in both the IAC and the Class C tournaments.

“Junior Jacob Banks led the way with a fourth-place finish at IACs and tied for second at sectionals. Junior Taylor Brock is also returning from last season, where he finished 10th at IACs,” coach Kevin Jester said.

Banks and Brock finished 1-2, respectively, in scoring average in the IAC Large School Division last year.

The Eagles have three other returning starters in freshman Tyler Greeno, junior Nathan Gillette and freshman Noah Banks.

Jacob Banks, Brock, Gillette, Greeno and Marsh were named IAC South Large School All-Stars. All but Marsh made the first team and Banks was selected the division MVP.

One other player coming back with match experience is senior Jackson Jennison.

Jester’s possible newcomers to the lineup this year are juniors Addison Young and Bryce Grant.

“The individual and team goals this year are of course to lower our stroke averages, with the ultimate goal of improving our performances in the IAC and sectional championships,” Jester said.

SVEC opens the season April 18 at Waverly.
