IAC TRACK & FIELD: CANDOR LACKS EXPERIENCE, BUT ‘COACHABLE' (2021-03-30)

CANDOR — The Candor track & field teams will have several new faces this season and be inexperienced.

“We are in the very early stages with our track team and still sorting things out,” said David Russell, who co-coaches the Indians with Bree Zogaria. “We have a very young team that is working hard, very coachable, and eager to learn.

“Right now our biggest goal is just to teach the athletes how to condition themselves, and what training and practice looks like for the various track and field events. They are a fun group to work with and we are eager to see them develop as the season progresses.”

The Indians do have a couple of seasoned veterans who are legitimate threats in the IAC and Section IV.

Ben Dizer, runner-up in the 400-meter dash at the IAC championships, is the top returnee in that event this season.

Kara Morse was fourth in the high jump at IACs, however, she eclipsed that mark by five inches at the Section IV Class D-3 meet with a leap of 4-11. That height topped the winning IAC jump by an inch.

“We also have a number of first-time varsity track athletes that show a lot of promise,” Russell said.

Candor opens the season Tuesday at Watkins Glen along with Newark Valley and S-VE.
