Marissa Berghorn's sacrifice fly scored Cassidy Hoffmier to break a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning and Nazareth went on to win its home opener, 3-2, over Alfred State here Thursday. Hoffmier reached base on a single.
Both players are Newark Valley grads and sophomores for the Golden Flyers.
Hoffmier is hitting .282 (11-for-39) with a double and 11 runs.
A shortstop, she has an .853 fielding percentage with 15 putouts, 14 assists and five errors.
Nazareth (6-6) visits Keuka College (0-6) Saturday, then heads to Elmira College (2-4) Sunday.
