Bowler of the Year.”
Owego
7th-grader Evan O’Hara is “Newcomer of the Year,” and Owego’s Rusty
Virkler and Corning’s William Condon share “Coach of the Year” honors.
Vanderpool
posted an IAC and Section IV high 226 average this season. His high
series in the regular series was 794, and he rolled a high game of 289.
He
finished second at the Section IV State Qualifier with a nine-game set
of 2,071 (230.1 average), including a 798 series series at the Class C
Championships, which was good for a first-place finish.
Vanderpool placed 30th in a field of 66 at States, rolling a six-game set of 1,223 for a 203.83 average.
O’Hara posted a 194 average, 15th among bowlers in The Sports Report’s coverage area.
O’Hara
recorded a season-high series of 678 against Windsor on Jan. 11 and his
high game, a 258, came on Dec. 6 against Susquehanna Valley.
He
paced the Indians with a 664 series as they won the Section IV Class B
tournament and his score was good for fourth place individually.
Virkler
led Owego to a 48-2 dual match record, and the STAC Division 3 and
overall conference championships, as well as the Class B crown.
The
Indians would also finish as the runner-up in the team chase at the
Section IV State Qualifier and had one of just two state qualifiers from
Tioga County (Cole Dalton).
Condon led Corning to a third-place
finish at States, and made a run for the state title. Using a strong
second set of three games the Hawks rallied in the afternoon and nearly
came away with a state title, bringing home a third-place finish in the
state.
The Hawks won the state qualifier and had two of the top 10 finishers in the team competition at States.

FIRST TEAM
Zach Vanderpool, Waverly: See above.
Joseph Enderle, Corning:
Enderle had the third highest average in the STAC this season at 216.
He finished 12th at State Qualifier, then placed in the Top 10 of the
individual standings during the team competitions at States. He had a
high series of 755, and a high game of 285
Cameron Kennedy, Corning:
Kennedy had the third highest average in the STAC this season at 215.
Kennedy finished 14th at the Sate Qualifier, then finished third — just
one pin out of second place — in the individual standings during the
team competitions at States. He had a high series of 753, and a high
game 279
Alex Smith, Elmira: Smith finished seventh in the STAC with a 209 average. He had a high series of 738, and a high game of 257
Cole Dalton, Owego:
Dalton posted a 205 record, which was good for 11th in the STAC. He
had a high series of 721, and a high game of 259. After finishing 10th
at the Class B Championships, Dalton finished eighth at the State
Qualifier to advance to States, where he finished 34th.
Tyler Taft, Owego: Taft
finished 10th in the STAC with a 206 average. He had a high series of
804 — second highest in the STAC, and and a high game 279. He finished
eighth at the Class B Championships, and 37th at the State Qualifier.
