Tioga County Sports Report
WINDSOR - Yet another close one. For the fifth time this season, SVEC has lost by single digits. The Eagles, who fell to Tioga by eight points, to Dryden by seven, to Whitney Point by six and to Newark Valley by five points, fell to Windsor by, you guessed it, four points Thursday night.
The Black Knights scored on their first possession of the game en route to a 23-19 victory as Zach Wolcott threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jack Beattie.
SVEC's Noah Mack and Mandell Davis intercepted Wolcott aerials with Davis returning his to the Windsor 1. Matthew Byrne threw to Cameron Fitzgerald for a TD, but the PAT kick was blocked, leaving Windsor with a 7-6 edge.
The Knights drove the ball down to the SVEC 1, where James Sutherlin came away with a pick six for a 12-7 Eagle lead in the final seconds of the half.
Wolcott got his passing game back on track, however, with a 30-yard pass on fourth-and-seven. Brady Weingartner then ran for a TD to put the home team up, 13-12.
Byrne and Fitzgerald hooked up for another TD late in the third quarter, giving SVEC a 19-13 advantage.
Windsor's Zach Adornato scored the game's final TD on a 5-yard run with about five minutes left to play.
SVEC turned the ball over on an interception to secure a win for the Knights.
Both teams end the season with 3-6 records.
