IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: S-VE DOMINATES NEWFIELD, 59-17 (2022-01-18)

SPENCER — S-VE won its third consecutive game, dominating Newfield, 59-17, in IAC South Small School girls basketball action here Tuesday.

Rhiana Lawrence drained four 3-pointers on the night, Hannah Martinez had two and Taya Sousa added one to highlight the Panthers offensive surge.

Meanwhile, S-VE held the Trojans to single digits in every quarter.

Martinez scored seven points in the opening frame and five more in the second period, and Lawrence knocked down three of her treys as the Panthers built a 27-8 halftime lead.

Abby Bunce hit for six points, Martinez went 4-for-4 and Lawrence hit her final three in the third quarter as S-VE made it a 44-14 game.

Martinez ended the game with 16 points, five steals, four rebounds and two assists; Bunce had 14 points, eight boards and five blocked shots; and Lawrence added 12 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Sophia Dutra pitched in with eight points, six rebounds five blocks, five assists and three steals; Taya Sousa had five points; Sydney Presher and Ajsa Zakova added two points apiece; and Marah Cooper tacked on five rebounds and two assists.

S-VE (6-2) hosts Marathon (6-2) in a crossover game Friday.
