STAC JV BOYS BASKETBALL: OWEGO SPLITS WITH CORNING, ONEONTA (2022-01-16)

OWEGO — Owego split a pair of STAC JV boys basketball games this past week, dropping a 52-50 heartbreaker at home against Corning Monday, then rebounding to defeat Oneonta, 56-47, on the road Saturday.

Corning 52, Owego 50
The Indians battled the larger Class AA Hawks evenly in the first half, leading 26-23 at the half.

Ben Rollison's eight points, including two 3-pointers, and another six points from Joe Palladino helped put Owego in front.

However, the Indians stumbled in the third quarter and Corning rode a 10-point bulge to a 39-32 advantage.

Owego came charging back to make a game of it in the final eight minutes as Palladino and Rollison accounted for five points apiece, including one trey each.

Palladino and Rollison led the Indians with 13 points apiece. Rollison connected for a trio of threes. Zack Bensley contributed 10 points, Riley Loomis and Owen Bronk added five points apiece, and Kam Wicklund and Matt Higgins tacked on two points each.

Owego 56, Oneonta 47
The Indians went downtown for 11 3-pointers, including six from Bronk and two from Palladino.

Owego outscored the Yellowjackets, 13-7, in the final period to pull away. Palladino knocked down both his 3-balls, Bronk had another and Bensley added four points.

Bronk, Loomis and Talon Schumacher drained one three apiece with Loomis scoring six points to lead Owego to a 14-13 edge in the first quarter.

Bronk popped in three more treys and Wicklund tacked on another in the second period as the teams battled to a 28-28 draw at halftime.

The Indians grabbed a 43-40 lead in the third quarter as Bronk scored five points, including a trey, and Bensley had four points.

Bronk scored a team-high 20 points and Bensley chipped in with 12 to pace Owego, which improved to 10-2 on the season.

Loomis added eight points, Palladino had six, Wicklund score five, Schumacher recoded three more and Rollison had two.
