IAC JV BOYS BASKETBALL: S-VE SPLITS WEEKEND GAMES (2022-01-15)

SPENCER — The S-VE JV boys basketball team split a pair of games recently, defeating Groton on the road Friday evening, 65-35, then falling to Waverly at home Saturday afternoon, 74-18.

S-VE 65, Groton 35
Ethan Ashby scored 10 first-quarter points and John Garrison added six more as the Panthers jumped in front, 19-10, after one quarter of play.

S-VE extended its advantage to 37-15 at the half as Ashby tacked on another six points and Austin Thigpen contributed four.

Ashby continued to roll after the break, putting up eight more points as the Panthers' cushion increased to 50-23 heading into the fourth quarter.

He would finish the game with 28 points, going 8-for-11 at the free throw line.

Garrison hit for nine points in the final frame, giving him 17 for the night.

Chris Merrick chipped in with eight points, Thigpen had four, and Brian Belanger, Jadyn Brodie, Wyatt Brink and Karson Kenville added two points apiece.

Waverly 74, S-VE 18
S-VE couldn't get its offense going against the Wolverines, who led 17-4 after the first period thanks to 11 points from Carter George.

Jon Searles scored eight points in the second quarter and Bryce LaForest drained a pair of 3-pointers to make it 34-9 at the half.

George led Waverly with 17 points, LaForest pitched in with 15 and Jake VanHouten added 11.

Merrick paced S-VE with seven, Thigpen had five, and Belanger, Donavin VanDerpoel and Kenville tacked on two points each.
