STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO STARTS STRONG, FADES IN LOSS TO ONEONTA (2022-01-14)

OWEGO — Short-handed Owego got off to a strong start before fading in a 57-24 STAC girls basketball loss to Oneonta here Friday.

The Indians grabbed an 11-9 first-quarter lead behind balanced scoring as Madison McEvoy had four points, Lexi Herceg three, and Sarah Terry and Lauren Gilbert two apiece.

Unfortunately for Owego, it managed only an Ava Brown basket in the second period as the Yellowjackets, who had won six of their previous seven outings took control to make it 25-13 at halftime.

Emma Peeters and Megan Cleveland combined for five 3-pointers over the final three quarters while Jordan Bellinger and Ang McGraw combined for 22 points in the same span to help Oneonta pull away.

McGraw finished the night with 15 points, Bellinger had 13 and Peeters added 10.

McEvoy paced Owego with eight points, Herceg chipped in with six, Terry had four, Gilbert three, Brown two and Georgeanna Hankey tacked on one.

Owego visits Susquehanna Valley Tuesday.
