IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: SHORT-HANDED CANDOR DROPS CROSSOVER TO SOUTHERN CAYUGA (2022-01-14)

Tioga County Sports Report
CANDOR — Shelby Swartz registered a double-double, but it wouldn't be enough for short-handed Candor in a 43-32 IAC crossover loss to Southern Cayuga here Friday evening.

The Indians continue to be hampered by injury and sickness, but coach Carl Kanoff said his team hung around.

Candor held an early lead on two Swartz baskets, but the Chieftains took advantage of a 6-0 run to win the first quarter, 13-6.

SC used that momentum to enter the half up, 25-12.

Candor regrouped to take the third frame 9-7 on the strength of five points from Pearl Ricardo.

The Indians battled to within five with just a couple of minutes to go, in the contest, but the Chiefs were able to extend their lead.

Swartz scored 10 points and pulled down 13 rebounds while Brooke Wilcox contributed seven points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Ricardo recorded seven points, three steals; Meckenzie Marsh chipped in with four points and three boards; Cadri Edwards added two points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals; and Francesca Viscuso tacked two points.

SC's Ellie Brozon led all scorers with 18 points and Charli Bennett added 14.

Candor travels to Tioga Tuesday.
