IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: S-VE'S THIRD-QUARTER STUMBLE COSTLY (2022-01-12)

SPENCER — Newfield took advantage of S-VE's low-scoring third quarter to pick up a 56-51 IAC South Small School boys basketball victory here Wednesday.
The loss offset an impressive 31-point performance by the Panthers' Markus Brock.
S-VE pulled in front, 17-16, in the first quarter, but the Trojans trimmed the lead to 31-29 at halftime.
Newfield went ahead, 44-39, after three quarters.
The Trojans increased their advantage to 48-41 in the fourth quarter, but consecutive field goals by Brock, Logan Jewell, Aiden Swayze and another from Brock put the Panthers ahead, 49-48.
The teams swapped leads with Brock putting S-VE back ahead, 51-50, but the Trojans sandwiched two field goals between two free throws to create the 56-51 final.
Brock made all 12 of his field goal attempts and added five blocks, five rebounds and three assists.
Pavel Jofre contributed eight points; Tyler Doster had five points and six boards Logan Jewell added five points, five rebounds and a block; and Aiden Swayze had nine rebounds and two points.
S-VE (5-6) travels to Groton Friday night.
