IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY DROPS SEASON OPENER TO McGRAW (2021-11-29)

McGRAW, N.Y. — McGraw grabbed a 15-8 first-quarter advantage and pulled away to post a 62-39 non-league victory over Newark Valley here Monday.

The Cardinals held their own in the second period, trailing 28-20 at halftime. The Eagles led 42-33 heading into the final frame.

McGraw went 17-for-25 at the free throw line to offset eight 3-point baskets by NV.

Ryan Chandler paced Newark Valley with 14 points, including four treys, while Caleb Karp had eight and Danny Pirger added five. Four other Cardinals scored at least two points each.

The Eagles Burdick led all scorers with 24 points, going 6-for-7 at the charity stripe in the process. Sutton made all five of his foul shots.

NV hosts Oxford Friday evening.
