COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: SUNY BROOME OPENS NJCAA NATIONALS WITH PAIR OF VICTORIES (2021-11-11)

ROCHESTER, Minn. — SUNY Broome Community College opened the 2021 NJCAA Division III National Championship with a pair of victories here Thursday.

The fifth-seeded Hornets defeated No. 12 Brookhaven College, 4-1, then dispatched No. 4 Central Lakes, 3-0.

Against Brookhaven, BCC edged out a 25-23 win in the first set, but dropped the second, 25-12. The Hornets rebounded to take the next two, 25-10 and 25-20.

Sara Zepkowski registered 13 kills, 16 1/2 service points, four blocks and a dig, while Mackenzie Struble handed out 41 assists to go with 11 digs, seven points, six aces and one kill.

Macey Gibson recorded seven kills, 8 1/2 points and 11 digs, and Bri Rossi added four digs.

In the quarterfinals, Broome took down Central Lakes by scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-22.

Gibson posted six kills, 12 1/2 points, six aces, one block and eight digs, and Zepkowski added six kills, 12 points, three aces, four blocks and three digs.

Struble doled out 24 assists to go with three kills, five points, two aces and seven digs, and Rossi tacked on three digs and one assist.

The Hornets (18-0) face top-seeded Rock Valley College (Illinois) in the semifinals at 6 p.m. this evening.

The Golden Eagles (33-7) defeated No. 8 RCSJ Gloucester (New Jersey), 3-0, in the quarters.
