IAC VOLLEYBALL: S-VE TAKES EDISON TO FIVE SETS (2021-10-13)

SPENCER — The last time S-VE and Edison met on the volleyball court, the Spartans walked away with a 3-0 sweep. Edison would also win Wednesday's rematch, but not before being pushed to five sets by the Panthers.

Things didn't look promising at the onset though as Edison dominated the first two games, 25-10 and 25-6. However, S-VE won a marathon third set, 30-28, then evened up the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth game. The Spartans would regroup to squeak out a 26-24 victory in the decisive set.

Marah Cooper recorded 29 digs, three aces and 13 kills for S-VE; Sophia Dutra had three aces, four digs, 12 kills and five blocks; Ajsa Zakova had 29 assists, two kills and a block; and Lynsey Frye added an ace and 33 digs.

Sydney Myrick chipped in with six digs; Lauren Slofkosky had a kill and a dig; Hailey Thigpen had four kills and a block; Alissa Knapp had four points, three digs, an assist and a kill; CC Churey registered two points, 16 digs and four kills; and Aryonna Disbrow added one ace.

Maren Lutz paced the Spartans with six points, two aces, seven kills, 15 assists and three blocks; Ashlyn Maggs had four points, two aces and 11 kills; Hayleigh Vanderhoff pitched in with five kills and 12 assists and Jadyn Wood had eight points, eight kills and an ace, with a dig.

Autumn Viale notched a dig; Gianna McGee added four digs and Gabby Milazzo posted five points and three aces and two digs; Amelia Fucito recorded two points and two aces; Harper Hoffman had five kills, an assist and three blocks ;and Emma Maggs tacked on 10 points, six aces and five kills.

S-VE (6-6)visits Watkins Glen Friday.

JV: The Panthers, swept by Edison in their previous meeting, took this match, 2-1. The scores were 28-26, 17-25 and 25-22.

Jackie Brown had 10 digs for S-VE, Adriana Farmer had 10 kills, two aces, a dig and an assist; and Faith Brenchley had seven aces, seven digs, five assists and three kills.
