IAC GIRLS SOCCER: SVEC DROPS 3-0 VERDICT TO ELMIRA NOTRE DAME (2021-10-11)

Tioga County Sports Report
SOUTHPORT — Elmira Notre Dame clinched a tie for the IAC South Large School title with a 3-0 girls soccer shutout over SVEC Monday evening.

Leila Vargas scored the game-winner for the Crusaders. Rachael and Amanda Simpson contributed one goal apiece.

Rachael Simpson had the assist on her sister's goal and McKenna Keough assisted on Rachael Simpson's goal.

“We are playing in a different formation, getting ready for sectional play,” ND coach Joe Picco said. “They were extremely dynamic getting in tonight despite it being a game-time decision to give it a go.

“We were fortunate enough to be able to give all our girls great amount of time on the pitch, giving our starters plenty of rest time.”

Notre Dame took 23 shots to SVEC's three shots and held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Neena Kurtz made nine saves in goal for the Eagles and Shannon Maloney had three for ND.

Notre Dame and Waverly, who have played to a pair of scoreless ties this season, will meet in a playoff at ND later this week to determine which team will represent the division in the IAC Large School Championship.
