NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley's Jonny Sherwood was feeling right at home Friday, running to victory at the Bob Greene / Newark Valley Invitational here.

The senior standout posted a time of 17:08.6, defeating Vestal's Liam Cody and Tim Smith in the process. The trio were the only competitors to run sub-18 minute times.

Vestal would cruise to the team title over Union-Endicott, 44-92. Elmira was two points behind U-E, Athens took fourth (116 points) and Owego (152) rounded out the top five. NV (178) was eighth and SVEC (237) placed 10th out of 12 scoring teams.

Hunter Ellis led Owego, placing 23rd in 19:05.2, and John Garrison paced SVEC, taking 38th with as time of 19:40.3. Nate Ackley was the top Waverly runner, placing 12th (18:27.9).

Other Tioga County runners placing in the top 50 in the 105-runner field included Owego's Jack Tredo (23rd, 19:11.3), NV's Mark Vosburgh (29th, 19:18), Owego's Jace Stuart (33rd, 19:26.6) and Hunter Georgia (34th, 19:37.7, SVEC's Nathan Gillette (40th, 19:42.4) and the Cardinals' Seth Hartenstein (43rd, 19:43).
