IAC GIRLS SOCCER: SVEC DROPS 3-0 DECISION TO WAVERLY (2021-10-08)

Tioga County Sports Report
CANDOR — Kennedy Westbrook scored twice as Waverly defeated SVEC, 3-0, in IAC South Large School girls soccer action here Friday.

The teams played 10-on-10 due to a SVEC player shortage.

The Eagles were able to hold Waverly, which played back-to-back double-overtime games Wednesday and Thursday, scoreless until there were about 12 minutes remaining in the first half.

That's when Paige Robinson set Westbrook up with the game's first goal. Less than five minutes later the two hooked up again and Westbrook placed the ball over the head of Neena Kurtz, who came out of the goal to challenge.

Kurtz, SVEC's sweeper, has been playing goalkeeper while Kara Morse is recovering from a severe sprained thumb.

Robinson scored the final goal of the game on pass from Kiley Stillman with less than 15 minutes left in contest.

Waverly held an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal, but SVEC held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

Kurtz made seven saves in goal for SVEC and Lea Cole had four for Waverly.

SVEC visits Elmira Notre Dame Monday.
