IAC GIRLS SOCCER: NEWARK VALLEY COMES UP EMPTY AGAINST NOTRE DAME (2021-10-08)

SOUTHPORT — Leila Vargas chalked up a goal and an assist as Elmira Notre Dame bested Newark Valley, 3-0, in IAC South Large School girls soccer action here Friday.

The victory keeps the Crusaders tied with Waverly for the top spot in the division.

Vargas set up Rachael Simpson for a one-on-one with goalkeeper Kathryn Simmons early in the contest. She then scored a goal of her own from 15 yards out in the first half.

Simpson finished off the scoring with Ava Mustico picking up the assist.

Notre Dame and Waverly will meet Wednesday to determine which team plays in the IAC Large School championship game.

The Cardinals host Whitney Point Tuesday.
