SECTION IV FIELD HOCKEY: SVEC EDGES OWEGO IN OVERTIME (2021-09-22)

SPENCER — A rain-soaked grass field made maneuvering the ball a challenge, but SVEC would finally find the cage in overtime in a 1-0 Section IV Division 3 field hockey victory over Owego here Wednesday.

"Tonight we had a wet and sloppy surface to play on," said SVEC coach Abby Gentile. "It led to inconsistent play and struggles being able to connect on our passes. Luckily we were able to take the ball to the goal right away in the overtime to come away with the win."

Adriana Newman would score just 31 seconds into the extra period to give the Eagles their third shutout in four games.

Owego continued to struggle offensively, losing by a single goal for the third straight time.

The Indians took four shots, attempted four penalty corners and goalie Mya Lunn made four saves.

SVEC took five shots and four corners, and goalie Bella Young had four saves.

Owego (1-5) heads to Marathon Friday and SVEC (3-4) hosts Maine-Endwell Tuesday.
