IAC CROSS COUNTRY: NEWARK VALLEY SWEEPS TIOGA MEET (2021-09-21)

TIOGA CENTER —Jonny Sherwood and Mark Vosburg finished 1-2 in the boys race while a solid grouping of Newark Valley ladies helped the Cardinals sweep the Tioga quad meet here Tuesday.

BOYS
Sherwood remained unbeaten in dual meets, winning the race with a time of 18:13. Vosburg posted a time of 19:50. No other runner broke the 20-minute barrier.

The Cardinals scored 28 points to Tioga's 49. Edison and Notre dame had incomplete teams.

NV's Danny Pirger placed sixth with a time of 21:26 while Aden Hollenbeck and Anvill Illsley rounded out the team scoring in ninth and 10th, respectively. Hollenbeck recorded a time of 22:22 and Illsley was close behind with a 22:25.

Also competing for the Cardinals were Riley Lavine (14th, 24:38), Nate Beebe (15th, 24:44), James Hackett (21st, 30:03), Bryce Dunn (24th, 34:40) and Devon Casell (26th, 41:09).

GIRLS
Elmira Notre Dame's Piper Young also stayed unbeaten in dual meets, winning the race in 23:40, but Newark Valley grabbed second through fifth place to capture the team title.

The Cardinals scored 25 points, Edison was second with 43 and Tioga took third with 69. ND was incomplete.

Harley Switzer led the NV charge with a runner-up time of 24:52. Addyson Osburn clocked 25:05, Emma Smith recorded a 25:42 and Ashleigh Turnbull finished in 26:03. Emma Dingman rounded out the team scoring with a time of 29:42, good for 11th place.

NV's other runner was Monica Escalante, who was 16th in 30:29.
