IAC VOLLEYBALL: S-VE RETURNS TO WIN COLUMN WITH SWEEP OF WATKINS GLEN (2021-09-20)

SPENCER — S-VE returned to the win column with a 3-0 sweep of Watkins Glen in IAC volleyball action here Monday night.

The Panthers topped the visitors, 25-11, 25-16 and 25-17.

"It was nice to get a win, maybe get their confidence up again," S-VE coach Sarah Pritchard said. "I was happy to see that they worked through some injuries and kids had to play in different positions tonight, and I still felt like they played their best game."

Marah Cooper registered 14 kills, four aces, four digs and one block; and Ajsa Zakova dished out 17 assists and contributed six aces, three kills, three digs and one block to the victory.

"Marah Cooper is really standing out," Pritchard said. "She's a junior. She was a standout last year. She plays well all the way around, serving, serve receive, defense, hitting. She had quite a few kills tonight."

Pritchard said foreign exchange student Ajsa Zakova was an all-around standout for S-VE as well.

Lauren Slofkosky cranked out five kills, six assists, two aces and one dig; Sophia Dutra posted two kills, a block and an ace; Lynsey Frye had seven digs and an ace.

Alissa Knapp chipped in with three kills, a dig and an assist; CC Churey posted three aces, a dig and an assist; Kaili Root had two kills; Sydney Myrick pitched in with an ace and a dig; and Hailey Thigpen tacked on a dig.

The Senecas received two assists from Jade Scaptura, and a kill and an ace from Colby Thurston. Maddy Jones had a kill, Chelsea Parsons had a block, and Melanie Wysocki and Kendall Gascon added one ace apiece.

Pritchard has been pleased with her team's play at this point of the season.

"I know we have some tough competition coming up, so I'm excited to see how we play with the tougher teams," she said.

Those teams include defending IAC Large School champ Newark Valley, Tioga and defending Class D state champion Candor all within the next 10 days.

S-VE (2-2) hosts Newark Valley (2-2) Wednesday.

JV: S-VE won, 2-1. The Panthers dropped the opening set, 25-19, but rallied to take the next two, 25-20 and 25-21.

Faith Brenchley handed out seven assists and had five kills, five aces and five digs. Lilyanah Doolittle chipped in with eight kills and a dig; and Onalei Tallman tacked on four aces, four digs and one assist.
