IAC VOLLEYBALL: CANDOR SWEEPS NV IN BATTLE OF LEAGUE CHAMPS (2021-09-20)

NEWARK VALLEY — Candor defeated Newark Valley, 3-0, in a battle of defending league champions here Monday evening.

The IAC Small School champ and defending state Class D champ Indians ran away with the opening set, 25-5, but the Cardinals refused to roll over in the second game, a 25-20 Candor win. The third set went the visitors' way as well, 25-13.

Shelby Swartz served 12 points for the Indians, eight of them aces, and had seven kills, three digs and one assist. Addie Aman contributed 20 service points, four aces and one assist; and Isabel Makie chipped in with 11 points, four kills and three aces.

Brooke Wilcox handed out 13 assists and had two digs; and Janelle Marsh had four kills for Candor.

Cha Gardner put up seven kills, two blocks and a dig for NV; Jenna Hanson dished out nine assists to go with two kills and three digs; and Gracie Gardner added two kills, an ace and a dig.

Jasmine Graham and Tatiana Tarbox tacked on three digs apiece; Joslyn Wright registered two digs; Kalyna Graham had one block and one dig; and Katie Greene added a dig.

On Wednesday, Candor (4-1) hosts Watkins Glen (1-3) and Newark Valley (2-2) visits S-VE (2-2).

JV: Newark Valley won, 25-8 and 25-20. The Cardinals also won the exhibition third game, 25-23.

Matthew Kasper scored nine aces, and Michael Medina had three aces, three digs and two kills for NV.
