IAC GIRLS SOCCER: NEWARK VALLEY ROUTS NEWFIELD, 7-0 (2021-09-20)

NEWFIELD — Several players contributed to the scoring as Newark Valley routed Newfield, 7-0, in IAC girls soccer action here Monday.

The Cardinals received multiple points from Isabella Shiel, who scored twice, and Emma Miller. Miller had a goal and three assists as NV improved to 3-0.

Molly McCloskey, Adrianna Finta, Makayla VanOrder and Kathryn Simmons notched one goal apiece. Livia Short, Clara McCLoskey and Mackenzie Day contributed one assist each.

"Molly opened the scoring with a 32-yard shot that just sailed over the keepers outreached hand," NV coach Chuck Schneider said. "Taking a pass from Emma, Isabella would score five minutes later. Adrianna would score finding the side pocket of the far post with 15 minutes left in the first half.   

"Twenty minutes into the second half Isabella scored off a feed from Livia.  Emma Miller scored her goal off a long pass from Mackenzie. Clare would find Makayla on a through ball for a goal with about eight minutes left. Kathryn would complete a give-and-go with Emma to close out the scoring in the waning seconds of the game."

The Cardinals outshot Newfield, 22-4, and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Kathryn Simmons had two saves for NV and Newfield's Natalie Tibbals made 10.

Newark Valley hosts Elmira Notre Dame Wednesday.
