SECTION IV CROSS COUNTRY: SHERWOOD, STUART, GARRISON LEAD THEIR TEAMS AT PRE-STATE MEET (2021-09-19)

Tioga County Sports Report
CHENANGO FORKS — Newark Valley's Jonny Sherwood and Owego's Jace Stuart ran to top-5 finishes at the Pre-States McDaniel-Baxter Invitational here Saturday.

The meet was held at Chenango Valley State Park, which will be the site o the state championships in November.

Competing in Race 3 (there were five boys races), Sherwood placed third in a field of 105 runners who completed the 5,000-meter course with a time of 17:34.2 and Stuart finished fourth, clocking 17:50.1.

The Indians would take fourth out of 12 scoring teams with 130 points and NV was seventh with 186.

SVEC's John Garrison took 24th out of 135 finishers in Race 5, posting a time of 18:45.7.

The Eagles were 15th out of 16 scoring teams with 353 points.

Also competing in the meet were Tioga and Waverly, which both ran in Race 1.

Following are more results for the NV, Owego and SVEC squads.

NEWARK VALLEY
Mark Vosburgh placed 26th (19:54.9), Danny Pirger was 58th (21:46.4), Aden Hollenbeck (23:25.2) and Anvil Islley (23:31.5) finished 76th and 77th, respectively.

Also competing was Riley Lavine, who finished 95th (28:12.6).

OWEGO
Jack Tredo finished 30th (20:23), Owen Casterline was 33rd (20:32.6), Noah Heath placed 39th (20:42.8) and Hunter Georgia took 40th (20:50.8) to round out the scoring.

Gavin Bowers (21:00.9) and Alex Brown (21:01.1) were 45th and 46th, respectively. Hunter Ellis crossed the line in 49th (21:04.4), Hunter Pitcher was 51st (21:06.4), Christian Hodges took 52nd (21:10.7) and Nick Maslin came in 54th (21:24).

SVEC
Nathan Gillette placed 69th with a time of 20:29.5. Zach Watson (21:59.1) and Matthew Fitch (22:06.4) finished 89th and 90th, respectively. Wyatt Stouffer claimed 107th (24:01.1).

Newark Valley and SVEC compete in a multi-team meet at Dryden Tuesday while Owego hosts its annual invitational Saturday.
