IAC GIRLS SOCCER: NEWARK VALLEY DEFEATS GREENE, 3-1 (2021-09-17)

Tioga County Sports Report
GREENE — Isabella Shiel, Hayley Beebe and Livia Short scored goals to lead Newark Valley to a 3-1 non-league girls soccer win over Greene here Friday.

Anna-Leona Kaelin contributed a pair of assists and Emma Miller added a helper on the other goal.

All of the scoring was accomplished in the first half.

"The game was mainly a midfield battle with each team having chances to go on the attack," NV coach Chuck Schneider said. "The play in the second half shifted more into Greene’s end of the field, but their swarming defense did a nice job of limiting dangerous opportunities. "

"For the first goal, Emma brook through the defense at midfield. While taking the keeper on she laid off a pass into space for Isabella to run up on. She would finish into an open net with 22 minutes left in the first half," Schneider said. "About three minutes later Hayley Beebe would head the ball over the keeper on a corner kick provided by Anna Kaelin.  Livia Short deflected the ball into goal off a corner kick by Anna with seven minutes in the first half to play."

Greene scored its goal on a long clear with 13 minutes left in the first half, closing the gap to 2-1.

The Trojans outshot NV, 9-8, and held a 6-5 edge in corners.

Kathryn Simmons made six saves for the Cardinals and the Greene keeper had four.

"What doesn’t show in the stat box is how well both keepers did with being aggressive of their line to thwart many attacks," Schneider said.

NV (3-0) visits Newfield Monday.
