SECTION IV FOOTBALL: NEWARK VALLEY REBOUNDS WITH LOPSIDED WIN OVER B-G (2021-09-17)

BAINBRIDGE — Newark Valley showed no ill effects of last week's stinging loss to Harpursville / Afton, instead running all over Bainbridge-Guilford, 62-3, in Section IV Division VI action here Friday night.

Joe Sherwood ran for four touchdowns while Max Flesher, Landon Spoonhower and Luke Rinkavage rambled for two TDs apiece.

Flesher scored what would prove to be the game-winning TD at 9:45 of the first quarter and the PAT klick made it 7-0.

Spoonhower lugged the rock for the next two at 4:40 and with 25 seconds remaining in the period. The cardinals tacked on a two-point and one-point conversion to build a 22-0 cushion heading into the second quarter.

Sherwood tallied his first two TD at 9:40 and 7:10 of Q2. NV made good on one of two PAT attempts to make it a 35-0 ball game.

Rinkavage would get in on the action with his first TD at 3:39 and the PAT kick gave NV a 42-0 advantage at intermission.

Flesher scored his second TD of the night at 7:55 of the third frame and the kick pushed the lead to 49-0.

Sherwood followed with his final TD, but a mishandled snap on the PAT attempt left the score at 55-0.

The Cardinals would find the end zone one last time and TD No. 9 went to Rinkavage. The point after, coming with five ticks left on the third-period clock, increased the score to 62-0.

B-G kicked a field goal with 30 seconds to go in the game to avoid a shutout.

Newark Valley (1-1) hosts Deposit / Hancock (0-1) next Saturday.
