YOUTH FOOTBALL: LOCAL TEAMS OPEN STYFC SEASON WITH MIXED RESULTS (2021-09-03)

TIOGA COUNTY — Opening weekend of the Southern Tier Youth Football Conference was a rough start for Tioga County teams as they went 6-9 overall.

The "A" division fared the best as the 5th- and 6th-graders from Owego-1, SVEC and Tioga all posted victories. Tioga downed Chenango Valley, 26-7, while Owego-1 bested Vestal, 22-14, and SVEC nipped M-E White, 18-15.

The "B" division (3rd and 4th grade) tacked on two wins with Owego-1 and Newark Valley winning. NV was impressive in its opener, blasting Susquehanna, 34-0, and Owego-1 defeated Vestal, 13-6.

Unfortunately for the local The "C" division (1st and 2nd grade) teams, victory was elusive.
