YOUTH BASEBALL: TIOGA COUNTY PLAYERS SQUARE OFF AT TOURNAMENT (2021-08-08)

ENDWELL — A half-dozen Tioga County baseball players came together for a pool play game during the PBRT Northeast Summer Championships at Maine-Endwell High School here Saturday.

Owego's Peyton Farrell and Ben Rollison, and Tioga's Conlan Taylor represented Triple Cities-based RBI Thunder in the 16U contest while Newark Valley's Mike Wandell, Tioga's Ethan Perry and Waverly's Ty Beeman took the field for the Finger Lakes Falcons-Brown 16U out of the Elmira area.

Farrell and Perry saw action on the mound, Taylor and Wandell played third base, and Beeman and Rollison set up behind the plate for their respective teams.

The Thunder erupted for six second-inning runs en route to an 8-3 victory.

Finger Lakes would try to rally in the top of the fifth, scoring a pair of runs, but RBI countered with two tallies in its half of the inning to maintain a six-run advantage.

The Falcons were only able to pick up one more run, that coming in the their last at-bats.

RBI Thunder posted a 3-0-1 record in pool play, outscoring its opponents, 32-15. RBI defeated Cayuga Bombers White, 9-1, Thursday; and Dirt Bags NY 2023, 11-7; Friday, then tied Canes NY 2024, 4-4, Friday.

That would earn the Thunder the third seed for Sunday's championship round. RBI met Canes NY 2024 in Sunday's semifinals, falling, 5-2.

Finger Lakes went 0-4 in pool play. The Falcons other losses came against Pa Rebels 2023 Gold, 12-0, Thursday; and on Friday to Cayuga Bombers White, 9-0, and Knights Nation MXE Academy, 11-1.

Taylor recently played for the New York state team in the 14U 2021 Junior Future Games in Georgia. New York posted a 1-3 record in that event.
