YOUTH BASEBALL (12U): OWEGO (CARD) SPLITS AT U-E TOURNAMENT (2021-07-25)

ENDICOTT — Owego (Card) scored nine runs in the first two innings to cruise past Vestal in 12C division action at the U-E Little League 12U All-Star Tournament here Saturday morning, but was eliminated by top-seeded Nichols-Tioga in the semifinals later in the day.

Nolan Card's inside-the-park home run highlighted Owego's first-inning start and turned out to be the game-winning hit as well.

Trace Hall was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the first and scored on Evan Canfield's double. Card's two-run dinger made it a 3-0 contest. Lucas Mott made it 4-0 with a base hit, scoring Wyatt Niles, who reached on a fielder's choice.

In the second, Ryan Diedrich and Hall singled, and Canfield pushed the lead to 5-0 with a double. Card followed with an RBI single, then tallied on a passed ball to give Owego a 7-0 advantage. Elijah Wheeler was hit by a pitch, Niles singled and Brenden Whigham smacked a two-run double to make it 9-0.

Back-to-back doubles gave Vestal a run in the top of the fourth, but Owego countered with a pair of runs in its half of the inning to end the game. Diedrich led off with a single, Canfield walked, then Diedrich scored on an error and Canfield reached home on a wild pitch.

Card was 2-for-2 with two runs and three RBI, and Canfield went 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI. Diedrich was 2-for-2 also with one run scored. Hall and Niles had a hit and two runs apiece; Whigham added a hit and two RBI; Mott recorded a hit and an RBI; and Wheeler scored a run.

Mott scattered five hits and a walk to pick up the win, striking out eight in the process.

NTLL 10, Owego 1
NTLL scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control of the game. Talon Relyea, Jackson Bombard and Owen Parker singled to get things rolling. Gavin Kithcart and Kaiden Sindoni walked and singled, respectively, to give Nichols-Tioga a 3-0 lead. With one away, Brayden Lounsbury singled to score the final two runs.

NTLL made it 6-0 in the third with a single and three walks and 7-0 in the fourth on four walks.

Owego put its run on the scoreboard in the fifth as Niles doubled and scored on a single by Mott.

NTLL tacked on a trio of runs in the fifth. Relyea singled, Bombard walked, Parker singled, and all three players scored on errors.

Parker finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI, and Lounsbury went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Relyea was 2-for-4 with two runs; Sindoni contributed a hit, run and two RBI; Bombard had a hit and scored twice; Josh Rought added a hit and a run; and Kithcart scored a run.

Niles paced Owego with a hit and a run, and Mott chipped in with a hit and an RBI. Canfield added a hit.

Kithcart went the distance on the mound, earning the win with four strikeouts and two walks.
