ENDICOTT — Owego (Gregory) split its first two pool play games at the Union-Endicott 10U Tournament here, dropping a 9-7 heartbreaker to Vestal, then rebounding to defeat Union-Endicott, 15-7.
Vestal 9, Owego 7
Owego outhit Vestal, 12-5, but its three-run rally in the top of the sixth inning came up short.
Devon Brace and Jeremiah Wheeler both went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Joram Belokur was 2-for-3 with a run; and Ben Harvey went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.
Truett Hall belted a two-run home run, Dylan Gregory and Lincoln Miller chipped in with one hit and one run each, and Rocco Canfield tacked on a hit.
On the mound, Wheeler and Brace combined to split eight strikeouts and four walks evenly, giving up five earned runs.
Owego 15, U-E 7
Owego rode a 10-run uprising in the third inning to victory.
After scoring four runs in the first, Owego gave up five to U-E in the second.
Ben Harvey started the big run with a double and his teammates would follow with five singles and four walks, and also plate runs on two errors, a fielder's choice and a hit batter.
Harvey was 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI; Gregory went 2-for-2 with two runs and four RBI; and Wheeler was 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.
Brace went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI; Canfield contributed a hit, two runs and three RBI; Landon Boccasini recorded a hit, a run and two RBI; Miller scored two runs and drove in another; Camden Thole adde a run and an RBI; and Belokur and Nick Tavelli tacked on a run apiece.
Miller, Thole and Hall pitched one inning apiece, combining on a one-hitter with seven strikeouts and 10 walks.
Owego takes on Maine-Endwell at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at George W. Johnson Park, 201 Oak Hill Ave., Endicott.
