TIOGA CENTER — Waverly rode a five-run second inning to a 9-6 victory over Candor in the Southern Tier Ponytail League championship game at Ransom Park here Thursday.

With their team behind, 2-0, Addison Temple, Maddie Cron, Melanie Skovira, Alexa Temple and Malia Phillips all drew walks in the top of the second inning, and Addison Temple, Skovira, Alexa Temple and Phillips would eventually score. Lecksie Douglas would drill a hard double down the third base line to score a pair of runs and would reach home on a wild pitch to make it a 5-2 game.

Candor would cut the gap to 5-3 in its half of the inning when Zoe Travis was hit by a pitch. Her Courtesy runner, Claire Rollins, would come around to score due to errant throws on plays at second and third.

Melody Douglas and Hannah Carpenter were issued walks in the third, and both would score while Cron and Skovira delivered singles. Addison Temple added an RBI with a ground out.

Down, 7-3, Candor trimmed the lead to 7-5 in its half of the third. Caiylene Collins took one for the team while Megan Williamson and Dallas Fanning received walks. Collins and Williamson accounted for the runs.

Walks to Alexa Temple, Douglas and Lily Root resulted in two more runs being scored by Waverly with Temple and Douglas scoring.

Rollins and Kaedyn Everhart picked up walks in the fifth with Rollins scoring Candor's final run.

Candor had grabbed the game's early lead, 2-0, when Fanning was hit by a pitch and Emmi Makie walked in the first.

Waverly received a first-inning single from Douglas, but she was stranded at second.

Waverly's Hannah Carpenter struck out 11 batters to earn the win in the circle. Makie fanned nine for Candor.
