YOUTH BASEBALL (10U): OWEGO (GREGORY) FORCES SECOND CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AT OWEGO TOURNAMENT (2021-07-13)

OWEGO — Owego (Gregory) forced a second championship game in the 10B division of the Owego Little League 10U / 12U Tournament, scoring six runs in the last two innings to defeat Maine-Endwell (Novotny), 11-9, here Tuesday.

The two teams will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to determine the champion.

A double by Landon Boccasini, and singles by Colby Cordero and Truett Hall in the top of the sixth inning broke a 9-9 deadlock. Devon Brace struck out the final M-E batter with the bases loaded to seal the win.

Owego's four-run fifth gave them a 9-8 edge. Camden Thole smacked an RBI single and Rocco Canfield followed with a two-run double to tie the score, then Dylan Gregory added a double to put Owego ahead.

A passed ball allowed M-E to send the game into the sixth tied at nine.

Owego opened the game with a single by Harvey and an RBI triple from Jeremiah Wheeler, but M-E would counter with a pair of runs in its half of the first. M-E would make it 3-2 in the second with an error, hit batter and fielder's choice.

Walks to Hall and Nick Tavelli helped set up Wheeler's two-run double, then, after Thole drew a base on balls, Canfield would deliver a two-run double for a 4-3 Owego lead.

Owego would make it 5-3 in the fourth when Lincoln Miller singled and scored on a wild pitch.

Two singles, four walks and an error allowed M-E to surge back ahead by an 8-5 score.

Wheeler enjoyed a 3-for-3 evening at the plate, accounting for two runs and three RBI in the process. Canfield was 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI; and Miller and Cordero both went 2-for-3 with a run.

Harvey recorded a hit and two runs while Thole, Boccasini and Hall chipped in with a hit, run and RBI apiece. Gregory added a hit and RBI, and Tavelli tacked on a hit.

Harvey pitched the first 3 2/2 innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits and four walks, and striking out five. Brace picked up the win with 2 1/3 innings of relief. He gave up one hit and five walks, fanning six, and did not surrender an earned run.
