YOUTH BASEBALL (10U): OWEGO (SCHRADER) TAKES THIRD AT OWEGO TOURNAMENT (2021-07-12)

OWEGO — Owego (Schrader) jumped in front of Nichols-Tioga in the 10C consolation finals of the Owego Little League 10U / 12U Tournament here Tuesday, but was unable to hold off NTLL in a 10-9 loss.

Owego scored five runs in the top of the first inning, then tacked on three more in the second, but NTLL rallied with a three-run third and five-run fourth.

The deadlock wouldn't last long as Owego added another run in the fifth, but Nichols-Tioga would plate a pair of runs in the sixth, winning on Landon Carlucci's walk-off single.

Maverick Thorpe would single to begin NTLL's final at-bats and tie the game on a passed ball, then Tyler Haskins would walk, Liamm Comstock would get hit by a pitch and Carlucci would bring Haskins home with a base hit to center field.

Owego was in control early on as Ethan Nikulich doubled, Adam Harvey and Egan Scanlon singled, and Maximus Schrader, Harrison Miller and Max Buchsbaum walked.

In the second, Harvey walked, Schrader followed with a double and Miller followed with an RBI ground out. Buchsbaum then delivered an RBI double, Jagger Chrysler singled, and Buchsbaum scored on a passed ball, giving Owego an 8-0 advantage.

NTLL finally got its offense going in the third as Carlucci started off the comeback with a triple. Kayla Nelson walked, Carlucci scored on an error, Eli Gage walked and Nelson scored on a passed ball. Owego would pick up a pair of outs, then Gage would score on a passed ball.

Nichols-Tioga would tie the contest in the fourth. Colin Wilson walked, Thorpe singled, Haskins singled home a run, Comstock walked and Anthony Powell singled in a pair of runs, closing the gap to 8-6 with one away.

Carlucci would drive in a run on a fielder's choice, Nelson singled and Carlucci scored to tie the game.

Owego would go back on top in the fifth as Nikulich led off with a walk and scored on an error following a ground out.

Thorpe went 3-for-3 and scored twice for NTLL, and Carlucci was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Haskins contributed a hit, two runs and an RBI; Powell had a hit and two RBI; and Nelson added a hit and a run. Wilson, Comstock and Gates scored one run each, and Fisher and Jackson tacked on one hit apiece.

Buchsbaum paced Owego, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Scanlon recorded a hit, run and three RBI; Harvey and Schrader added one hit and two runs apiece; Miller and Nikulich pitched in with a hit, run and RBI each; Chrysler added a hit.
